LITHIUM BATTERIES – Warnings, How to Stow, Handle and Dispose
Precautions Thank you for choosing this Icom product.
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS carefully and completely before using this product.
The BP-234 is a non-rechargeable Lithium battery pack. The following precautions must be observed:
• NEVER dispose of the BP-234 battery pack in a fire. This could result in a fire or explosion.
• NEVER short-circuit the BP-234 battery pack. Metal contact (such as a paper clip, another battery, and so on.) across the battery contacts can result in a sustained high discharge rate that could damage the battery, void the warranty, and create a burn or fire hazard.
• NEVER expose the BP-234 battery pack to excessive heat of 60°C (+140°F) or above. This could result in electrolyte leakage, possibly causing an explosion or fire.
• NEVER attempt to recharge the BP-234 battery pack. Lithium batteries may explode or cause a fire in such cases.
• NEVER disassemble the BP-234 battery pack.
■ Disposal The crossed-out wheeled-bin symbol on your product, literature, or packaging reminds you that in the European Union, all electrical and electronic products, batteries, and accumulators (rechargeable batteries) must be taken to designated collection locations at the end of their working life.
Do not dispose of these products as unsorted municipal waste.
Dispose of them according to the laws in your area.
• The BP-234 battery pack contains no user-serviceable parts. Internal battery gas can cause throat irritation.
Also, exposed lithium may generate heat and ignite.
• DO NOT apply excessive pressure to the battery.
This may result in electrolyte leakage, possibly causing an explosion or fire.
• The BP-234’s storage life is about 7 years from the date of manufacture.
Once the expiration date on the battery pack expires, a new battery pack MUST be purchased.
• For safety reasons, once you begin using the BP-234, a spare one should be purchased.
Although you can use the original battery pack for regular communications, KEEP a brand-new battery pack for emergencies.
